Kanye’s future-pop protégé
Who She?
Former American Apparel model, Kanye West backup dancer, and ceaseless overachiever, 20-year-old Kacy Hill is now tackling the music industry. She’s off to a great start. ‘Experience’, a song recorded on her LA kitchen table, has pricked ears all over the globe. It’s her only offering so far, but those in the know are commending the track for its futuristic pop credentials.
Why Kacy Hill?
Like Flying Lotus and Skrillex, she cut her teeth on LA’s famed electronic scene and also has a notable New York influence. Hill is signed to GOOD Music, the NYC-based label founded by “American Mozart”/national joke Kanye West. Whatever your view of West, the rap juggernaut certainly knows musical talent: ‘Experience’ features airy beats, sparkling energy and breezy vocals. The song is little short of being aural lucozade, and her whispery vocals boost its effervescence – “Be a soft kind of prison,” she coaxes, rather aptly.
Tell Us More
As a proponent of clever pop, Hill follows the likes of Kyla La Grange, Raury and FKA Twigs into a realm of surreal, yet popular electronic music. ‘Experience’ comes with a space-age video that reflects her individual sound with a clean, peculiar aesthetic, and these alluring visuals prove that she could well be the complete package. This appealing combo has also been noted by established tastemakers Kitsuné: alongside talent such as Toro Y Moi, Hill features on the label’s ‘America 4’ compilation. She’s also finessing her debut album, so watch this space.
