Viennese style bright beats for the dancefloor or living room
Who She?
Born in Sao Paulo, Joyce Muniz is now a resident of Vienna, city of glacial cool and baroque buildings tucked in a huddle with the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. “In Vienna we sit in a late-night café,” sang Kraftwerk, who crop up on the album (read on…), but it’s a place that meant nothing to Midge Ure.
Why Joyce Muniz?
Her ability to cross the dancefloor/hi-fi divide was in evidence with the fluid nighttime groove of her excellent 2013 EP ‘Sleepless’, while ‘Made In Vienna’ is an album of perfect poise, its electronic foundations at times induce the kind of lucid hypnosis you’d associate with Factory Floor. Muniz always brings a touch of glamour to her tight and precise grooves, with user-friendly vocals from a raft of contributors. Nice sleeve design tops off an essential album.

As well as being regular face in the nightlife and music scene of Vienna, she has a show on the Austrian national radio station FM4 and was a resident DJ at the grungy Pratersauna club, which closed back in February, and has been releasing music for quite a few years, spending the last couple working on ‘Made In Vienna’. “It’s hard to say what this album is” she says. “I can imagine people dancing to it in the club, but also in the car, or hearing it on the radio or at home.”
Certainly, when you catch the huge Kraftwerk sample in ‘Back In The Days’ (it lifts, with full permission, of course, ‘It’s More Fun To Compute’) you may find you start dancing in your car.
