Who He?

Danish producer, composer and remixer Kasper Bjørke has been making music since the early noughties, but has caught our ears with ambient concept album ‘The Fifty Eleven Project’. He’s a DJ as well as a solo artist, and has been a part of “party project” Superbacon since 2010. Not much on his plate then.

Why Kasper Bjørke?

His most recent record, ‘The Fifty Eleven Project’, is 11 tracks of deeply atmospheric compositions that charts an emotional journey Bjørke experienced through a cancer diagnosis and the following five years of regular check-ups (50 11 being the hospital department he was treated in). He is thankfully now cancer-free, and the release of the album coincides with the second anniversary of him getting the all-clear. Reference points for ‘The Fifty Eleven Project’ include Vangelis, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Penguin Café Orchestra. There was also 11 art films (one for each composition) installed as a video exhibition at Klub in Copenhagen in October, with a view to take the project on tour in 2019.

Tell Us More…

Bjørke has five solo albums under his belt as well as an abundance of EPs and singles. His remix work can be found on a number of labels, including Kompakt, Ghostly International and Bella Union (among others). His DJing has taken him to clubs like Fabric, Electric Pickle and Output, as well as sets at festivals such as Sonar Barcelona and Iceland Airwaves. Always keeping busy, even through his darker periods, Kasper Bjørke is a composer who is well worth your time.
