Domenique Dumont ‘People On Sunday’ (The Leaf Label)

Tranquility and warmth permeate ‘People On Sunday’, Domenique Dumont’s debut LP for Leeds-based The Leaf Label. Originally conceived as a soundtrack to an inter-war German silent film of the same name, the follow-up to their gorgeous Balearic classic ‘Miniatures De Auto Rhythm’ sees the enigmatic French group configure high art into woozy, ambient escapism. There’s a somnambulant lull to ‘Sunshine In 1929’, while hints of tropical percussion take ‘Water Theme (Le Château de Corail)’ and ‘We Almost Got Lost’ into desert island territory. Seriously dreamy stuff.
