William Basinski ‘Lamentations’ (Temporary Residence)

Sonically, experimental composer William Basinski has tended to focus on the darker side of life – profound, looping meditations on death, decay and disintegration – and he employs similarly funereal motifs to typically mesmeric effect here. Eerie and sorrowful, ‘Lamentations’ is a deeply moving and beautiful elegy to a broken world. It’s at its most poignant on the crackled operatic tones of ‘Please, This Shit Has Got To Stop’. More power to Basinski’s elbow in these crazy times.
