Electronica blends into a sound art experience in the Electronic Sound studio

Ultramarine’s debut LP ‘Folk’ in 1990, was followed by excellent outings ‘Every Man And Woman Is A Star’ (1991) and ‘United Kingdoms’ (1993), the latter with extensive contributions from Robert Wyatt on vocals. They pulled off the magic trick of creating a kind of pastoral electronica for the 1990s, an update of Kraftwerk’s countryside excursions and night walks to be found on Side Two of ‘Autobahn‘.

They toured America with Orbital and Meat Beat Manifesto and with Björk in the UK and Europe. After a long lay off that started towards the end of the 1990s, they returned with a new album in 2013 (‘This Time Last Year‘) and earlier in 2023 released ‘Send And Return‘ on the Blackford Hill label, recorded on a barge floating on the Blackwater Estuary in Essex.
