Who they?
From London’s Kentish Town comes Grand Pax, known on the electoral register as Annie Pax, whose nostalgic trip pop soothes and delights in equal measure. ‘Music For Twilight’ might be an equally appropriate title, judging by the sounds from her upcoming ‘PWR’ EP.
Why Grand Pax?
The collection of tracks on ‘PWR’ fall somewhere into “the dusky space between night and day” and have a hallucinogenic quality to them. “‘PWR’ is like a dream sequence for me,” says Pax. “Its subject matter could easily be melancholy however for some reason it came out in colour, hopeful and sweet.” So while the title track chunters forward with groovy alt-R&B rhythms, ‘Blur’ is more wistful, echoing with dreamy synth lines and Pax’s processed melodic vocals. It all ties together with ‘One Of Us’ a trip hop tune with dashes of both CHVRCHES and Let’s Eat Grandma. All killer, no filler.

Grand Pax first made a name for herself in 2018 with her apocalyptic debut track ‘Comet’. She then garnered radio support from the likes of Annie Mac, Lauren Laverne and Huw Stephens following her 2019 single ‘Bunk’. Since then her fondness for mixing ethereal soundscapes, trip hop beats and dreamy electronics has made Pax an artist you should be following. “Each track has a life of its own, so you learn from it,” she explains. “When you put them together, and you get this image of life in a way.” If ‘PWR’ is anything to go by, we’re very much looking forward to where she takes her sound next.
