Video Premiere: Kayla Painter ‘Quantum Superposition’

Sci-fi electronica from Delia Derbyshire-adjacent “space freak”

This unsettling video featuring white-eyed multiples jerking to the electronic stutter of the soundtrack is showcasing the work of composer, producer and sound design artist Kayla Painter. She has been making a name for herself lately thanks to a high-profile support slot with Rival Consoles earlier in 2022 and the ‘Somewhen’ EP which was named ‘best ambient track of 2021’ by Hannah Peel on her BBC Radio 3 show.

Over on her Bandcamp, the ‘In The Witch Elm’ single was created with sounds from the Delia Derbyshire archive, while the recent pink cassette of ‘Planet 9’ is a journey to the outer reaches of our solar system.

She’s now happily signed to the venerable Castles In Space label with her first vinyl release, an eight-track EP, ‘Infinite You’, in the blocks for a 11 November release on blue vinyl and digital platforms.
