Former half of Sink Ya Teeth, genre-blending electronic artist Maria Uzor announces news of her forthcoming album Fantasyland, and shares the first single from the album titled Don’t Touch Me
The album Fantasyland arrives on September 3rd via Hey Buffalo Records and plays with notions of escapism in a world that appears increasingly unpredictable.
Written and recorded entirely in the spare room of her flat in Norwich, the 9 tracks bend and dart through a spectrum of genres, gathering shards of techno, electro, trip- hop, indie and bass along the way.
Single Don’t Touch Me creeps like a stark, ludic call to embrace the child within. An effortlessly detached offering that sits in opposition to the noise generated on social media.
“I’ve always been a daydreamer, which often gets a bad rap. And there ain’t nothing worse than being dragged back to reality! This song is basically me saying ‘Leave me alone in my happiness, man!”

On writing the album, Maria says: “I wanted to build my own world, largely away from online distractions. There’s an expectation for artists to create music that panders to the algorithm, which I think can be quite damaging in the long run. I didn’t want to do that.
To actively buck a trend like that can leave you feeling quite vulnerable. Part of the story of making this album has been a journey back to personal realignment. It’s an ongoing thing, always shifting and rebalancing.”
Maria has been writing and performing solo since her previous group, the post- punk dance outfit Sink Ya Teeth disbanded in 2021. She has released 3 EPs and 1 full length album to date, gaining support from BBC 6 Music, Jamz Supernova, Amy Lame and BBC Introducing.
Collaborations have included Acid Klaus (The Moonlandingz), A Certain Ratio, and Chk Chk Chk. She’s opened for Young Fathers, Black Midi, Snapped Ankles, and Benefits amongst others.
