Swoony New York dreampop fivesome
WHO THEY?
Fronted by Boston native Barrie Lindsay, who also pens the dreamy tunes, she arrived in NYC when her manager/friend pretty much insisted she form a band with some people he knew who ere based there, more of which in a bit…
WHY BARRIE?
We’ve not mentioned Steely Dan for a while, but Barrie have that kinda carefree sunshine vibe. Which, as right-thinking folk know, is an extremely good thing. What’s more, the speed this lot are moving at, they’re going to be very hard to ignore. First single, the sleek dreampop of ‘Canyons’ popped up in February, swiftly followed in June by the 80s-flavoured ‘Tal Uno’ and finally a third single, the recently released, deliciously gentle ‘Michigan’. All three tracks (along with a couple of belting remixes by pals FaltyDL & Shura and Brother Michael) are collected together as ‘Singles’, which will be released any minute.
TELL US MORE…
While the band call Brooklyn home, they’ve landed up there from all over the place. Barrie was introduced to Spurge (keys) and Noah (guitars/keys) via her aforementioned friend who knew the music-making duo/DJs from NYC community radio, The Lot. The pal figured, quite rightly they’d work as a band. Wasting little time, the line-up was completed by blow-ins, fresh off the plane from London came drummer Dominic Apa of electro rockers Is Tropical. Bassist Sabine, from São Paulo via Berlin, was recruited through Tinder, the go-to app for bass players, natch. Worked out nicely didn’t it.
