Amon Tobin’s label announces debut signee

Multi-instrumentalist Adrien Rodes (Topo Gigio, Tim Smith’s Spratleys, Cardiacs) has become Amon Tobin’s first signee for Nomark Records with the announcement of his debut single ‘ilk’. Released under the new guise of Furii, the four-minute track features Jo Spratley (Tim Smith’s Spratleys, Mikrokosmos, MUMMY) on lyrics and vocals, with the overall sound treading a line between languorous alt-rock and psychedelic fairytale.
“Nomark caught me off guard and asked for material,” says Brighton-based Rodes. “Even though Amon has set the sonic bar very high with his various aliases, it feels like the perfect home to reconnect with compositional and production experiments, and Jo has kindly lent her beautiful voice and words for this first tune. I was after a witchy lullaby vibe and I certainly got plenty of it.”
The release marks a significant moment in the Nomark timeline. Since 2019, all 71 of the label’s previous releases have featured Tobin in one guise or another, and the label boss says there’s much to be excited about.
“When we started Nomark, the idea was to make an uncompromising place for my own music, but always with a view to one day opening up to other artists,” explains Tobin. “Furii is Nomark’s first official signing and I couldn’t be more proud. A songwriter I’ve admired for over 20 years and a musician so talented he’s now a member of the Cardiacs. Enough can’t possibly be said about the Cardiacs. If you know, you know, and it’s such an honour to have Jo from Tim Smith’s Spratleys also feature on this extraordinary piece of music. Yup, it’s a big day for all of us here at Nomark.”
