The former Coil man swaps industrial for ceremonial on this haunting album of shivering meditations, originally titled ‘Ritual Music’. It feels like we’re stepping into a ruined church, echoing with woozy drones, synthetic choirs, and the thrumming stomach rumble of God. Whatever beasties the Scot is summoning – the broken vocoded chants on ‘Agalma VII’ are truly unearthly – the presence of sonic experimentalists Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and Caterina Barbieri, two collaborators among many, is worth our devotion alone.
