This collaboration between the German composer J Peter Schwalm and Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henrikson feels almost elemental, as though the climate itself is manifesting as a third moody contributor. Beneath Henriksen’s changeable spells of brass, electro-acoustic droplets patter like rain as cloudy textures breeze through their changing sky. The title ‘Neuzeit’ refers to the slowly creeping turmoil of our current Anthropocene era and, particularly on ‘Blutezeit’ and ‘Schonzeit’, the subject matter provides an intensity that is engaging and stark.
