This double vinyl set captures the last live performance of Pan Sonic founder Mika Vainio before his tragic death in 2017. His performance of these seven pieces (titled ‘I’ to ‘VII’) is an exercise in overlapping and carefully organised noise. It drones, clicks, thumps and wheezes, like some resting unknowable beast. ‘VII’ brings it to an abrupt conclusion after a spine-chilling passage of mounting distortion. In an obituary, his brother Aino described Mika’s music as being a like a full body massage with sound waves, which remains a fine description.
