Festival cancellation opens up second London date

Electronic Sound covers star Thomas Dolby has announced a newly added second London show on his imminent UK tour, which kicks off on Wednesday, 14 August in Glasgow.

“I was shocked to hear just yesterday that W Fest in Ostend was cancelled at the last moment due to bankruptcy,” Dolby tells us. “That left me with two free days at the end of this tour, but paid-up crew, equipment etc. UK ticket sales have been doing very well and the Shepherd’s Bush gig has been sold out for days, so we asked the promoter about a second night at the Empire – it wasn’t available but he offered the O2 Academy Islington instead! This felt like a great consolation prize and I’m really stoked to be playing a second show, on a Bank Holiday weekend, in the city of my birth.”

The sold-out Shepherd’s Bush date is on 22 August, and tickets for the new date at the intimate O2 Academy in Islington are to be announced. Keep an eye on Dolby’s website for updates.

In the meantime, Dolby-mania continues with the cover story of this month’s Electronic Sound, with the much-loved synth pioneer recalling the making of the 1984 classic album, ‘The Flat Earth‘. The issue is bundled with a limited edition blue vinyl seven-inch single, featuring two tracks from the album, ‘Hyperactive!‘ and ‘Mulu The Rain Forest‘. You can grab your copy at electronicsound.co.uk before they sell out.
