Esoteric electronic artist Maria Uzor shares 2nd single from upcoming new album Fantasyland
Punching hard with a ricocheting, ballistic beat, heavy bass, and vocals that bounce between soft and confrontational, Cyclops creeps in with the majesty of a Ray Harryhausen film before dropping into a dirty, dub-inspired dance number, complete with a peppering of proto-rave.
“The title came before the track. It popped into my head in the shower. I was thinking about how nuance is becoming a lost art, how we’re increasingly moving towards more binary thinking, which results in division and othering. The image of these pre-historic monoliths stomping around with single one-dimensional thinking. Cyclopses.”
The video was shot in 20 minutes by Joel Benjamin on an iPhone in woodland on their way to pick up a secondhand amp.
“We wanted to do something quick and off the cuff. No planning, just a couple of takes.”
Cyclops is the 2nd single to be released from the album Fantasyland, which arrives on Sept 3rd via Hey Buffalo Records. The album plays with notions of escapism in a world that appears increasingly unpredictable.
