Moog have announced that the Minimoog Model D is back in production. It does kind of beg the question “why was it ever not in production?”, but here it is, available for pre-order at your favourite music shop for a sweet £5,290. It’s a limited run, so it will almost inevitably sell out on pre-orders and then become the object of auction bidding wars.

The spiel from Moog says that the new models will be hand built, just as the orginals were, with an identical sound engine and signal path as the 1970s models. They’ve even commissioned a batch of semi-conductors to the spec of the originals.

There are also some new upgrades suitable for the contemporary synthesist. According to the Moog website, those upgrades include a dedicated analog LFO with triangle and square waveshapes, a premium Fatar keybed with velocity and after pressure available via top panel CV jacks with onboard trimpots, MIDI integration, and a mixer feedback modification which allows the Minimoog Model D to overdrive and scream with the turn of a knob. And, for the first time in its history, the Minimoog Model D now features a spring-loaded pitch wheel with center deadband, allowing for improved playability and wild performance flourishes.”

Get your pre-order in now for early December shipping. Ho ho ho.
