The return of the ‘Pop Muzik‘ legend
Anyone within hailing distance of a teenager will probably be aware that M’s ‘Pop Muzik‘ has recently achieved that lightning strike of contemporary popularity known as going viral on TikTok. The essential associated dance craze was inspired by a joyful choreography video By Molly Long, which itself has over a million streams on YouTube in the last couple of months.
In a serendipitous bit of timing, Robin Scott, the architect of the M project, has a new album under the M moniker (alongside his own name) coming out in July. It’s the first official M music in 40 years. “I just thought, why don’t we amalgamate the two? A marriage of me and my alter ego,“ says Scott.
The first track to see the light of day from the album is ‘AI?‘, premiered here.
”The point of the song is to open up the conversation and controversy surrounding artificial intelligence” Robin tells us. “In the creative world it could be a real asset. I know people are concerned about copyrights and so on but I think it’s because it’s in the very early stages – I hope all those questions can be answered to give artists security of mind.
“I’m not advocating that AI is good or bad I just think it’s something we ought to face up to because like it or not – it’s here to stay
“This video brilliantly uses the Baroque artwork we chose for the sleeve. I wanted the juxtaposition between that and the use of AI to be clear and thought provoking. Isn’t it incredible that we now view works of art with different eyes? I still marvel at the fact they were created by the human hand!”
